KB Labs Testing Services

HPLC Potency Testing:
R

KB Labs offers High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) potency testing. Potency testing on HPLC analyzes Cannabis samples for 10 cannabinoids. HPLC testing distinguishes levels of THC/CBD and additional cannabinoids in measurements of percentage.

Gas Chromatography Testing:
R

KB Labs uses a Gas Chromatographer to test Cannabis samples for: Terpenoids, Pesticides, and Residual Solvents.

R

Terpene Test:

KB Labs uses Gas Chromatography to quantify how many Terpenoids are present in the Cannabis sample. KB Labs tests for 22 Terpenoids.

R

Pesticide Test:

KB Labs uses Gas Chromatography to quantify the level of Pesticides present in Cannabis samples and provides Pass/Fail results. KB Labs tests for 36 Pesticides. KB Labs quantifies residual Pesticides in Parts Per Million.

Microbiology Testing:
R

KB Labs provides several types of Microbiology Testing: 3M Plate Yeast and Mold testing, qPCR testing, Mycotoxin Testing.

R

3M Yeast & Mold Plates:

KB Labs uses 3M plates to incubate bacteria on the surface of Cannabis samples. 3M plates look for 40 strains of bacteria. Plates take 72 hours to incubate.

R

qPCR:

KB Labs uses quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction technology to find microbiological DNA in Cannabis samples. qPCR looks for 4 strains of Aspergillus: A. fumigatus, A. flavus, A. niger, A. terreus. qPCR also tests for Salmonella and E. Coli .

R

Mycotoxins:

KB Labs test Cannabis samples for Mycotoxins contamination.

R

E. Coli:

KB Labs tests Cannabis samples for E. Coli contamination.

R

Salmonella:

KB Labs tests Cannabis samples for Salmonella contamination.

Potency Analysis

Accurate determination of cannabinoids concentrations in cannabis samples is the most important component of cannabis testing. Our instruments deliver high accuracy for not only THC but also a wide variety of other cannabinoids such as CBD, CBG, CBN and CBC and more.

Terpenes Analysis

Terpenes are produced in trichrome were THC is produced and give cannabis its distinctive flavor and aroma. Terpenes also act as essential and medical hydrocarbon. From pine to citrus to limonene the character of the sample is profiled by our sensitive instruments to produce a high accuracy terpene profile.

Pesticide Residue Analysis

Pesticides are used in commercial cannabis grow operations to kill insects and spiders that thrive on cannabis plants. Pesticides are carcinogenic and mutagenic, causing serious harm to cannabis consumers, especially immuno-compromised medicinal cannabis users. We own the most sensitive and comprehensive pesticide screening and confirmation testing instruments available on the market today. We test pesticides per California state regulations.

Microbial & Mycotoxin Screening

Microbial Testing are a crucial requirement across many industries worldwide where products, processes and human health are at risk of being negatively affected by the presence and breeding of micro-organisms such as specific pathogens, bacteria, yeast and moulds. The cannabis industry requires to test for Aspergillus, E. coli, Salmonella, yeast and molds and airborne pathogens.

Mycotoxins are fungal natural products that are toxic to humans. The main two Mycotoxins that are required for testing in the cannabis industry are Ochratoxin A and Aflatoxins (B1, B2, G1, G2).  Special microbial testing packages are available. We use qPCR/DNA technology to run our microbial testing. We also run 3M Petrifilm technology and greenhouse airborne pathogens testing.

Heavy Metal Screening

A heavy metals panel is a group of tests that measures the quantity of specific potentially toxic metals in the cannabis samples as required by California state regulations. We offer several different groupings of heavy metals panels as well as tests for individual metals, using Atomic Spectroscopy technology.

Foreign Matter Inspection

The foreign matter inspection, or ‘FMI’, is a thorough microscopic examination that can be performed before or after harvest. After harvest it is used to detect large foreign particles, hair, insects, mold colonies, or other foreign matter. Foreign matter inspection can distinguish between flower trichomes  an actual molds.

Moisture Content

The moisture content of cannabis is measured with a moisture meter that is an essential  electronic  instrument used in many industries to detect moisture content in foods and other items like wood and vegetation. Most moisture meters are calibrated and provides accurate reading. Typically, in cannabis moisture content readings should be below 15% when the product is in market.

Residual Solvent Testing

Residual solvents are leftover chemicals from the process used to extract cannabinoids and terpenes from the cannabis plant. The solvents are evaporated to prepare high-concentration oils and waxes. Sometimes, the evaporation process does not remove all of the solvent. Since these solvents are not safe for human consumption, it is important to verify their absence so you can guarantee you are providing a safe, chemical-free product.

Water Activity Testing

Water Activity Testing is a Regulations Test in California. Measuring the water activity in a cannabis product is an excellent way to test how susceptible the product is to microbial contamination. The higher the measured water activity is in a product, the more freely water can be used by microbes as a food source or to support chemical and enzymatic reactions leading to spoilage.

In other words, the higher the water activity value, the more vulnerable cannabis products are to microorganism growth.
